Massive Entertainment’s Star Wars Game Set for Early 2024 Release

The renowned game publisher Ubisoft is facing significant setbacks and financial losses. With a series of cancelled games adding to their troubles, Ubisoft is now focusing on the highly anticipated open-world Star Wars game developed by Massive Entertainment. The game, which remains shrouded in mystery since its announcement in 2021, is generating excitement among fans. It is being led by Julian Gerighty, known for directing The Division 2, and is powered by Massive Entertainment’s Snowdrop engine.

Previously assumed to be a distant release, Kotaku reports that Massive’s Star Wars project is actually the enigmatic “another large game” that Ubisoft had confirmed for launch during its 2023-24 fiscal year. The publisher has set its sights on an early 2024 release, aiming to bring this long-awaited Star Wars experience to players.

However, sources cited by Kotaku suggest that Ubisoft’s ambitions may be overly optimistic. The development of the Star Wars game, internally referred to as Project Helix, is said to have encountered obstacles. The inclusion of interplanetary space travel has reportedly posed challenges, leading insiders to anticipate a potential delay that could push the release into the following financial year, spanning from April 2024 to March 2025.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding the Star Wars game, Ubisoft has a busy lineup for the current fiscal year. Alongside Massive Entertainment’s second title, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Ubisoft plans to release long-awaited projects such as Skull and Bones, The Crew Motorfest, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The Assassin’s Creed franchise, in particular, continues to be a focal point for the embattled publisher, as it recently announced intentions to expand the Assassin’s Creed team from 2,000 to 2,800 members.

Fans and industry enthusiasts can look forward to the Ubisoft Forward showcase on June 12th, where more details about these upcoming titles are expected to be unveiled. With luck, attendees may even catch a glimpse of Massive Entertainment’s highly anticipated open-world Star Wars game, igniting the imagination of Star Wars and gaming enthusiasts alike.
