The second song in the Refused/Samurai Cyberpunk 2077 collaboration is available for download and streaming. In addition to this Swedish hardcore band Refused has released a statement on Facebook explaining how they came to assume the role of Johnny Silverhand’s Samurai band:
“When CD PROJEKT RED approached us about writing music for Cyberpunk 2077, we jumped at the chance. Partly because of the challenge: to write music for a fictional band that was similar to Refused, but quite different at the same time, having the music and lyrics be shaped and determined by the feel, tone and plot of an outside narrative.
The timing was perfect, we had just finished #WarMusic and were still in the zone songwriting-wise. Most importantly though, it seemed to us sort of like a 2019 version of when Cannibal Corpse was in “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective”, in other words: very cool.
Props to P.T. Adamczyk, in-house composer at CDPR, for having the vision, writing it with us, producing and seeing the whole thing through. And no, we had no idea that dude from Steve Martin’s “Parenthood” was gonna be the lead singer.
